from Stanford University found that a breathing pattern involving two short inhales followed by a long exhale produced significant improvements in mood and reductions
in stress.

What Is the Physiological Sigh?
The physiological sigh consists of a nasal inhale, a second short “top off” inhale, and a long slow exhale.

The HYPOXiX breath cycle incorporates a double sniff nasal inhale, a long controlled engaged exhale, and optional endexhale pauses.
The double sniff inhale closely resembles the inhalation pattern used during the physiological sigh.
The difference is that the exhale becomes an active muscular event.
Instead of simply allowing air to leave the lungs, participants learn to engage the pelvic floor, activate the deep abdominal wall, recruit the obliques, stabilize the rib cage, and maintain postural alignment throughout the exhale.
